A relatively small tree/shrub in the UK, but in its native habitat up to 8-15m with a dbh(trunk diameter at breast height) of 3m. Native to E. California, S. Nevada and Utah in the Great Basin’s mountain elevations of 100-3400m. Conical crown becoming irregular and flatter topped with numerous spreading densely clothed branches that become pendulous later on.
Needles become blue-green, curved and can persist for 10-40 years or more. The natural climate is sub alpine to alpine with extreme heat and coldness, desiccating winds, snow and ice. Long lived potential…5,000 to 8000yrs
